How to Build Wealth: 4 Rules When Getting Rich
admin | July 8, 2018 | 3 | Boost Your Net WorthWhat’s the state of your wallet?
With many Americans living paycheck to paycheck, it’s safe to say your wallet is probably hurting. The good news is you can change that because getting rich isn’t a thing of magic or luck. You just need to know how to make the dough.
Interested?
In this article, we are teaching you how to build wealth. And to start us off, here are four rules you need to follow.
1. You’re Never Too Young to Invest
One of the most common financial mistakes people make is thinking they’re too young to start investing.
Perhaps you’re in your 20’s right now and all you want to do is travel the world, complete college education or binge on Netflix shows all day. The longer you take to start investing, the harder you’ll have to work to get rich later on.
To find inspiration, you don’t have to look beyond Warren Buffett, one of the richest men of our time. At age 11, Buffett purchased his first stock! And it didn’t come cheap. At $38 a share, the would-be billionaire became a shareholder even before he was out of his teens! That could be you.
You don’t need thousands of dollars to buy stocks. With the few bucks, you could one share at a time. Before you know it, you’re building a solid stock portfolio, and consequently, wealth.
2. Don’t Buy Depreciating Assets on Credit
We all want cars, the best electronic devices and whatnot. But can you afford them?
While it’s advisable to own these things – they make life easier after all – take care not to acquire them on credit.
Let’s take a car as an example. Perhaps it’ll make your life better: more comfortable commutes and you can also use it to earn an extra income. However, cars are depreciating assets. In fact, a brand-new car loses about 21 percent of its value the moment it leaves the showroom!
Taking out a loan to buy such an asset isn’t a savvy move. You’ll end up losing money. Instead, take out a loan to start a business.
3. Embrace Frugal Living
Admit it: the image of a yacht sailing on sparkling blue waters is still on your mind!
Don’t worry. That means you’re a human being with wants, just like everybody else. But when you’re in the business of growing wealth, you must resist such temptation and lead a frugal life.
Do you have multiple cable and TV streaming subscriptions? You only need one to keep you abreast of business and financial news.
Is every weekend cinema weekend? That’s a costly habit.
The point is, stop spending money on unnecessary things. The moment you do, you’ll have a lot more to save for a rainy day and invest.
4. Leverage Technology
You have to tip your hat to investors who made their money back in the day when the internet wasn’t a thing. But this doesn’t necessarily mean you follow their path.
Today, there is a range of technologies that make getting rich easier. From financial blogs to robo-advisors, you have it all. You just need to find the best for your needs. In the case of robo-advisors, for example, consider SoFi vs Betterment.
